Swimming Pool Death Ruled Accidental Drowning

EUCLID, Ohio (AP) - The death of an 8-year-old Brooklyn, N.Y., girl in a city swimming pool was an accidental drowning, the Cuyahoga County coroner said Wednesday.

The body of Aminata Diallo was pulled from the pool in the Cleveland suburb of Euclid on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl had been staying at her aunt's home. She and her aunt left the pool and the girl apparently drowned after returning to the pool to retrieve a personal item, Mayor Paul Oyaski said.

Detective Ken Kucinski said two lifeguards were on duty at the time. He said officers were still conducting interviews to determine what happened.

The lifeguards, ages 17 and 18, were suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation, the mayor said.
