AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Akron teachers have approved a contract that includes a pay raise of 10 1/2 percent over three years. The deal also boosts pay for additional work such as coaching and advising after-school clubs.
Ninety-five percent of the 700 teachers voting on Sunday approved the contract. Only about a third of the Akron Education Association's 2,200 members voted.
The Akron school board was expected to vote on the deal Monday. If approved, the agreement would take effect immediately and last through June 30th, 2005.
The contract calls for a first-year teacher to be paid $29,729 for the upcoming school year.
