Officials Want Cleveland Schools CEO To Stay

CLEVELAND - Cleveland school officials want district CEO Barbara Byrd Bennett to hear their message: They want her to stay, Action News reported.

Many of the officials in the Cleveland Municipal School District had feared that Byrd Bennett would want to move to New York City to take the school chancellor's job there.

Over the weekend, Byrd Bennett (pictured with student, above) met with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg after he extended the invitation.

Byrd-Bennett, a New Yorker who came to Cleveland in 1998 from a top job in the New York system, has for months been rumored to be a candidate for the open chancellor position.

So far, Byrd Bennett said that she plans to stay in Cleveland.
