Oakwood, OH - The first member of the Twinsburg police department killed in the line of duty laid to rest Friday.

A sea of blue encased the funeral home where Officer Joshua Miktarian was eulogized.

More than 2,500 officers stood outside in the blazing heat as a funeral procession for the 33-year-old arrived.

Police motorcycles and cars led the hearse to Mt. Zion of Oakwood Church past flags tied to mailboxes, flowers set on lawns and people standing in silence.

Miktarian was a K-9 officer and the procession included his police dog - Bagio - riding in the officer's cruiser.

Bagio will be retired to the slain officer's family.

Several pastors, fellow police officers and childhood friends spoke about the officer who played in a rock band, owned a pizza franchise and was the proud father of a 3-month-old girl.

Officer Miktarian shot four times in the head while making a traffic stop at Route 91 & Glenwood early Sunday morning.

Miktarian's alleged killer - Ashford Thompson - fled the scene and was later found hiding at his sister's house in Bedford Heights.

Thompson charged with aggravated murder and is being held on $5M dollars bond.

Officer Joshua Miktarian leaves behind a wife and a 3-month-old daughter named Thea. Officer Miktarian was not only a Twinsburg Police Officer, but also volunteered at the Uniontown Police Department, owned a Gionino's Pizza franchise and played guitar in the Akron based rock band "Barium."

Officer Miktarian's wife, Holly, released the following statement Tuesday:

"On behalf of myself and our daughter Thea, we would like to thank the community for its generous support during this difficult time. I just want you to remember Josh as a loving husband, father, good friend, professional police officer and a wonderful person."
