AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A newspaper said that House Speaker Larry Householder and Akron businessman David Brennan will team up to raise money from secret donors for this year's elections.
The Akron Beacon Journal reported on Tuesday that the two Republicans will help organize a group called Informed Citizens of Ohio. The group can hide its donations because it will produce so-called voter information material that will avoid advocating the direct election of a certain candidate.
Brennan told the newspaper that it's too soon to target specific races. But a source the Beacon Journal did not identify told the newspaper that the focus would be on Ohio's Supreme Court races.
A similar group called Citizens for a Strong Ohio ran ads critical of Democratic Justice Alice Robie Resnick two years ago. However, Resnick won election to a third term by 14 percentage points.
