TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Two boaters died in separate falls into Lake Erie.
Charles Dippman, 79, fell into the lake on Wednesday while trying to board his boat at a marina east of Toledo.
Dippman, of suburban Oregon, was found about 10 to 15 minutes later, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"He leaned to get on the boat and there was some slack and he went in," said Lucas County Sheriff's Lt. Don Atkinson. "It was purely an accident."
In Michigan, just north of Toledo, Raymond Wasielewski, 49, of Temperance, Mich., collapsed on his boat Wednesday and fell into the lake at Stateline Marina, said sheriff's deputies in Monroe County, Mich.
His wife jumped in to rescue him, and he was pulled out a few minutes later. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was planned.
