COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A former Columbus police officer suspected of killing his wife and leading authorities on a chase up Interstate 71 will be charged in Franklin County.
The State Highway Patrol and authorities from Franklin, Morrow and Ashland counties met in Columbus on Monday to pool their information on Hermando Harton.
No charges have been filed, but authorities said that Franklin County's sheriff and prosecutor will handle the case because that's where Harton's wife was killed.
Sheriff's detective Steve Martin said that he isn't sure when Harton will be charged.
Harton is suspected of killing his wife, Elizabeth, before leading officers on a chase and holding them at bay for approximately four hours. He was shot as he fled on foot and remains in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
