Authorities Searching For Missing Boater

MARBLEHEAD, Ohio (AP) - The Coast Guard was searching Tuesday for a missing boater who fell into Lake Erie.

Authorities said they were alerted around 2 a.m. that a boater fell off a speed boat and into the water near Catawba Island.

James Barnett of Barberton was coming back from Put-in-Bay when he went overboard, the Coast Guard said.

The boat's driver, Scott Speer of Doylestown, threw a life ring in the water but couldn't see Barnett. Speer, 37, then drove the boat to a marina and called for help, the Coast Guard said.
