2 Men Killed In Garbage Truck Crash

OBERLIN, Ohio (AP) - A BFI garbage truck broke through a guardrail and crashed in a ravine Monday, killing two men inside, police said.

The accident occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. on U.S. 20 near state route 511, State Highway Patrol Trooper Michelle Stanley told The (Lorain) Morning Journal.

Stanley said it doesn't appear other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Troopers found cab smashed against the side of the ravine, it's bed sticking straight up in the air, Stanley said.

It took firefighters several hours to remove the men's bodies from the cab. Their identities were not released.

Absorbent barricades were placed in a stream at the bottom of the ravine to catch contaminants coming from the truck.

The truck reportedly was on its way from Cleveland to BFI's landfill in Lorain County.
