At Least 2 People Injured On State Fair Ride

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A car fell about 15 feet from a ride at the Ohio State Fair on Thursday, injuring at least two people, fire dispatchers said.

The accident happened about 3:45 p.m., trapping a person in the ride called the Remix, which has cars rotate at the end of arms moving in a circular motion. Firefighters were on the scene within 15 minutes and it took about nine minutes to free the first person.

The injured people were taken to Ohio State University Medical Center. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Fair officials declined to comment. Messages seeking comment were left with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, which is in charge of inspecting the rides.

Amusements of America, based in Monroe Township, N.J., operates the ride. A message seeking comment was left with the company's safety director.

This would be the second accident at this year's fair.

A cable snapped on the Big Sling ride at the fair Aug. 5, stranding two riders 100 feet in the air for 20 minutes. No one was injured on the slingshotlike ride.
