COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Gov. Bob Taft is not an auto-racing fan, but his re-election campaign wanted to associate him with the thousands of Ohioans who are.
NASCAR racer Ricky Craven headlines a $50-per-person fund-raiser for Taft this week in Athens County. Craven is a Republican from Maine who drives the Number 32 Tide Ford.
Taft's campaign wanted a star driver for the fund-raiser and Craven was already scheduled to be in Athens County for a promotional event.
Taft (pictured, above) will try to tap into another group of sports fans on Sept. 13 when golf legend Jack Nicklaus hosts a $1,000-per-person fund-raiser at the new Jack Nicklaus Museum in Columbus.
Taft signed a bill allocating $500,000 to the Nicklaus Museum.
