Association of Zoos and Aquariums Honors Hanna

MILWAUKEE (AP) - An organization that monitors the quality of the nation's zoos has awarded its highest honor to animal expert Jack Hanna.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums on Tuesday gave its R. Marlin Perkins Award for Professional Excellence to Hanna, the director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and a national TV celebrity.

In a statement, Hanna says the award is a highlight of his career. He says it's a privilege to work with zoos and animals for so many years.

Association President Jim Maddy says the group is proud of Hanna's achievements in wildlife education.

Hanna has been a regular, along with his zoo animals, on national talk shows for the last 25 years.
