Police: Man Killed At End Of Ohio Prayer Vigil

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Police in Dayton say a man was killed in gunfire that erupted at the end of a prayer vigil for a previous shooting victim.

Another man was wounded in Tuesday evening's shooting, which police Sgt. Wendy Stiver says appears to have been related to vigil.

People had gathered to pray for an end to the kind of violence that claimed the life of 16-year-old Kendrick Pope, found shot to death Sept. 11 behind an old school building.

The boy's mother says the vigil was held Tuesday because it would have been his 17th birthday. Kenya Pope says she and others had just released balloons as the vigil was ending when they heard gunshots and left the area.

There have been no arrests, either in the killing of Kendrick Pope or in Tuesday's fatal shooting.
