CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Indians will open the 2009 season on the road at Texas and will be the first visiting team to play in the new Yankee Stadium.
Major League Baseball announced its schedule on Wednesday and it includes the Indians facing the Rangers for a three-game series starting on April 6. Cleveland will return home to play its opener at Progressive Field on April 10 against Toronto.
On April 16, the Indians will open New York's new $1.3 million ballpark in the Bronx as part of a four-game series. The Yankees will make their one and only trip to Cleveland for four games from May 29-June 1.
Cleveland's final homestand will include games against AL Central rivals Detroit (Sept. 22-24) and Chicago (Sept. 28-30). The Indians will end the regular season with four games against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park (Oct. 1-4).
