AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Vehicle emissions test sites in seven northeast Ohio counties now offer free replacement gas caps.
The company that administers the tests says a motorist whose vehicle fails because of a missing, leaking or faulty gas cap won't have to drive away and buy a new one before the test can be retaken.
Envirotest Systems Corp. says it began the free cap program Sept. 15 as a convenience for motorists.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency approved the program. Air pollution control chief Bob Hodanbosi says it saves motorists a return trip and immediately improves air quality.
Officials say a proper gas cap keeps in vapors that contribute to smog.
