False Bomb Threat Evacuates Retirees in Ohio

SWANTON, Ohio (AP) - A false bomb threat at a northwest Ohio retirement center has forced the evacuation of elderly residents, some bedridden or requiring oxygen.

About 100 patients at The Health Care and Retirement Center in Swanton were evacuated to a nearby high school at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday. They remained there for several hours before being taken back to the center.

Bomb-sniffing dogs searched the center and found no trace of explosives.

Whitehouse Police Lt. John McNutt says patients were evacuated by school bus and ambulance to Swanton High School. McNutt says rows of bedridden patients were set up on wrestling mats, and oxygen systems were transported to the school.

The bomb threat is under investigation.
