Hearing For Ohio Teacher Over Creationism Claim

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) - A school board planned on Thursday to hear from a middle school teacher facing firing over claims he burned crosses into students' arms and taught creationism.

The Mount Vernon school board in central Ohio voted unanimously in June to move ahead with firing John Freshwater.

The decision came after an investigation showed Freshwater preached his Christian beliefs in class, taught creationism and used a device to burn the image of a cross on students' arms.

Freshwater denies the allegations. A board hearing was to begin Thursday and was expected to last several days.
