Shut Down: O-DOT To Completely Close Innerbelt Bridge For Stress Tests

Cleveland, OH - A 19 Action News Travel Alert this hour.

O-DOT will team up with Case Western Reserve and the University of Cincinnati next week to conduct a stress test on the Innerbelt Bridge - during which time, the bridge will completely shut down.

The closure will happen after 11PM and only last a few hours overnight sometime mid-week. Commuters are urged to seek an alternate route now.

The stress test will involve trucks rolling over the bridge and equipment measuring the stress on the structure.

Previous inspections of the Innerbelt Bridge have shown that the steel members are aging faster than expected. On Monday, ODOT crews began a new round of detailed inspections, using an ultrasonic thickness gauge to determine how much strength the steel has lost due to deterioration.
