Explosive: Man Threatens To Blow Up Animal Hospital

Alliance, OH - An Alliance man jailed after a terrifying incident at the Westside Animal Hospital.

Police say Charles M. Hammond walked into the business at 8:45AM Thursday armed with a gym bag he claimed held a bomb.

The 39-year-old then demanded the keys to a vehicle parked outside as well as employee purses before manhandling one worker.

One employee was able to flee to a nearby business and summon police. This caused the nearby business to temporarily close and go into a lock down.

The man fled on foot and was later apprehended in the nearby woods. The bag did not contain a bomb, rather the man's personal items.

Hammond was charged with four counts of Aggravated Robbery, one count of Abduction, one count of Disrupting public Services and one count of Inducing panic - all of these charges are felonies. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief.

He was booked into the Stark County fail with bond set at $276K. He will be arraigned in Alliance Municipal Court on Friday October 10th.

One of the victims received minor injuries however did not require treatment.
