Fatal Fire: Akron Father Dies in House Fire

Akron, OH - A father dies after saving his son from their burning home.

The fire happened around 7:13 am at 649 Garfield Street. Firefighters say the cause of the fire was an over-loaded electrical outlet. Damage is estimated at 70-thousand dollars.

A car in the driveway was also destroyed and a neighbors house had five-thousand dollars in damage.

Apparently, the mom was already at work and the dad and son were sleeping when the fire started.

The dad woke up, saw the flames and screamed for his son to get up. The son got up and escaped but, the dad didn't make it out in time.

There is extensive damage to the house.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Garfield Street is closed between Shelby and Tallmadge.
