AKRON, Ohio (AP) - An 8-year-old boy who went on a 20-mile drive in a stolen pickup truck to visit his family fled a county facility, authorities said.
Anthony Mignano and his 13-year-old sister ran away from a Summit County Children Services home on Monday. They were found Tuesday in nearby Barberton, where their mother lives.
The facility is not locked down and Mignano simply left while staff members weren't looking, said Louise Miller, director of community relations for the agency.
On Sunday, Mignano apparently stole the pickup, which had the keys inside, from a lot at the Chrysler Corp. plant near his Twinsburg foster home and was headed to visit his family.
He was stopped by a motorist who slowed him down by pulling in front of the pickup truck.
"We are evaluating what would be the best placement for him at the moment," Miller said. Options include relatives, a group home or a foster home. A juvenile detention home is unlikely because the boy has not been charged with a crime, she said.
The children were removed from the family home in March because of allegations of abuse.
