Police Work To Remove Explosive Elements From Wickliffe Home

Wickliffe, OH - Officers from Wickliffe PD and The Western Lake County Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at home on North Elmwood Wednesday morning. Members of the Lake County Bomb Squad, Lake County Haz-Mat and the Ohio EPA also assisted.

As a result of the search, officers seized homemade explosive devices, flash powders, fuses, chemical compounds and other materials used in the production of homemade explosives.

A 45-year-old male resident of the home is in custody with charges pending. The search stemmed from the investigation of multiple incidents of homemade or improvised explosive devices being detonated at city parks dating back to 2004.

All of the incidents investigated involved minor property damage only, there is no indication that that there was ever any intent to cause harm to any persons.

While there is no immediate hazard to the surrounding neighborhood, officers will remain on scene and work with the EPA Thursday to complete the site clean up.
