Goodyear Blimp Christened 'Spirit of America'

MOGADORE, Ohio (AP) - The chairman of Goodyear and the mother of a New York police officer killed on Sept. 11 christened the company's newest blimp on Thursday.

Chairman Sam Gibara and Letitia Driscoll cracked a bottle of champagne on the airship Thursday morning after reading a dedication for the "Spirit of America."

During most of the morning, three blimps hovered overhead, waiting for the latest blimp to join the fleet. It was the first time in 40 years that four Goodyear blimps have flown together in formation.

Also attending the ceremony at the Wingfoot Lake Airdock Blimp Terminal were 10 students picked in a nationwide essay contest sponsored by the tiremaker.
