FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio (AP) - A man who interrupted a Mass with a claim that he had killed a girl who was found slain 12 years ago was jailed Monday while police investigated.
Police have not made any conclusions about the claim made Sunday by 41-year-old Richard Folbert, according to police Sgt. Thomas Zinsmayer.
Zinsmayer was off-duty and attending the Mass at St. Angela Merici Roman Catholic Church in the Cleveland suburb of Fairview Park when Folbert stood up during communion and claimed that he had killed Amy Mihaljevic. He and two auxiliary officers also at the Mass took the man into custody.
The 10-year-old girl disappeared from nearby Bay Village on Oct. 27, 1989, and was found dead on Feb. 9, 1990, along an Ashland County roadside.
Zinsmayer said that Folbert would face a court hearing Tuesday on a charge of inciting panic. The court was closed Monday for the Columbus Day holiday.
Bay Village detectives, who arranged to question Folbert, could not be reached for comment. A message seeking comment was left at the Bay Village police department.
