And in the process, Hixson has had the chance to meet and spend some time with six first families.

George H.W. Bush was always one of his favorites, and he remembers the first time he met the Bush family, “First came Millie the dog, next came Barbara and then the President right behind, and they wore blue jeans and their Christmas sweaters,” he remembered.

Hixson remembered the late Bush as, “A great guy, very personable.”

Lakewood businessman, "Mr Christmas" Bill Hixson has been decorating the White House for over 3 decades. One of his favorites was George H.W. Bush.

One of his best memories came when Barbara Bush invited him into the First Family’s private living quarters to see the family Christmas tree.

Hixson recalled being struck by how well the President treated everyone he met and how that respect was given back, “He was well loved by his people and well loved by the people in the White House.”

Hixson is just back from another year of decorating for Christmas, but the biggest memory he will take away from this Christmas season is the loss of the President.
