UPDATE: I-71 South reopens after violent 2-semi crash in Wayne County

WEST SALEM, OH (WOIO) - Traffic came to a standstill on Tuesday night on Interstate 71 south in Wayne County after two semis crashed into each other.

The jarring accident closed all southbound lanes, and drivers were advised to take alternate routes.

The State Patrol said one of the semis was hit when it was sitting in the right lane, the trailer did not have any trailer lights.

The lanes have reopened.

Dramatic on-scene footage captured the aftermath of the violent crash, where at least one person was taken away from the highway by Life-Flight helicopter with potentially serious injuries:

The twisted-metal crash occurred at Exit 198 in West Salem.

Injuries were reported, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

ODOT tweeted that all lanes reopened just after midnight.
