KIRTLAND, OH (WOIO) - Construction on a new residence hall at Lakeland Community College is set to begin this spring.
By August 2020, students will have a brand new, five story, 131,000 square foot residence to call home on campus.
Lakeland is planning to offer 350 beds in two and four bedroom apartments.
Lakeland, like most community colleges, is a commuter school with a functional campus of academic buildings and parking lots.
This residence hall will open up other opportunities for some students.
“Students living on campus have higher grade point averages and spend more time preparing for class, according to national research,” said Lakeland President Morris Beverage Jr.
The college is hoping that on-campus housing may lure some students who are looking for affordable tuition, but who still want the complete college experience, which includes living on campus.
Lakeland has entered an agreement with a real estate foundation to build and manage the residence hall—no taxpayer or college funds will be used on construction or management of the building.
