Protestors gather ahead of court hearing for Willoughby couple accused of abusing dog

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Protestors gathered outside of Willoughby Municipal Court Thursday before the judicial appearances for Alvaro Torres and Heather Pica Torres, the couple accused of abusing and neglecting a dog.

Mrs. Torres' case was bound over to a Lake County grand jury, while Mr. Torres asked that his hearing be continued to a later date.

The couple is charged with abandoning their bulldog mix. Willoughby police believe the dog was left in the cold for days before it was eventually rescued from the side of the road next to a dog cage.

The dog, later renamed Lucy, was taken to the Lake County Animal Shelter for surgery.

If convicted, the crimes are punishable by up to 12 months in prison.
