Cleveland trooper injured in crash, suspect charged with OVI

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A Cleveland trooper was injured in a crash in the city’s Puritas-Longmead neighborhood on Sunday morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said around 3 a.m. Trooper J. M. Norton was responding to a crash on Interstate 71.

Investigators said Norton was driving northbound on West 130th Street at Kirton Avenue in a marked car.

Authorities said the trooper’s was hit by another car at the intersection.

The driver of a 2007 Kia Sportage failed to stop for a stop sign, according to state patrol.

State Patrol said officers at the scene accused the driver of the KIA to be highly intoxicated.

The Trooper and the suspect were transported to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.

Dasaree Sanchez was charged with:

  • OVI
  • OVI refusal with prior conviction in the previous 10 years
  • driving under a OVI suspension
  • failure to yield from a stop sign
  • failure to wear a safety belt

Trooper Norton was treated for minor injuries and was released from the hospital
