Sen. Sherrod Brown, others react to death of Ohio native Luke Perry

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Ohio native and actor Luke Perry has passed away. He was surrounded by his children and family after suffering a recent stroke, his representatives reported.

Perry, 52, was born in Mansfield and grew up in Fredericktown, a small community in Knox County.

Perry remained a resident in Ohio until moving to Los Angeles following high school.

The actor’s signature role came as Dylan McKay in the hit 1990s series “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Michael O’Neil, a former staff member in President Barack Obama’s administration, revealed Sen. Sherrod Brown’s father actually delivered Perry during his birth in Mansfield.

“Luke Perry represented what makes our state great – generosity, humility, and a fighting spirit. Connie and I join the Mansfield and Fredericktown communities in offering our deep sympathies to Luke’s family and friends on their loss.”

Others with Ohio ties and former acquaintances of Perry also took to social media to react to the actor’s death.
