CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland religious- and community-based groups held a memorial downtown to mourn the loss of the 49 people who were murdered during an active shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday.
The Islamic Center of Cleveland and Global Cleveland helped organize the vigil at Cleveland City Hall to help support those who were killed and injured, and to battle hate speech.

Mike Bush, New Zealand’s police commissioner, reported that 41 people had been killed at Al Noor Mosque and seven at Linwood Mosque, and that another victim had died at Christchurch Hospital.
A 28-year-old man, who reportedly wrote a manifesto filled with extremist propaganda, was arrested and charged with murder. Two others are also in custody.
