CHAGRIN FALLS, OH (WOIO) - Students and staff from Gurney Elementary School in Chagrin Falls gave a rousing salute to a retiring South Russell police officer.
Officer Mike Kramer was assigned as security to the school following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
Since his presence began in 2012, Kramer connected with the students, faculty, and parents by learning everyone’s names, shoveling snow, assisting students in the school clinic, and helped a parent with a stalled car.
Tuesday was his last day at Gurney Elementary School before retiring at the end of March. Students and faculty wore “police department blue” and handed class cards to Kramer while giving him a surprise “clap-out.”
“We can only hope that the officers who fill his role at Gurney most often will follow in his footsteps and see the value in that personal connection,” said Principal Rachel Jones, Gurney Elementary School.
