CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The Cleveland Indians phased out the Chief Wahoo logo from players’ uniforms after the 2018 season, but an organization that has long protested the controversial symbol will be at Progressive Field again for the 2019 home opener.
Native Americans and protesters against the use of the logo are expected to take part of the 27th annual demonstration heralded by the Committee of 500 Years of Dignity and Resistance.
Organizers are planning to march from West 25th Street at 1 p.m. to the corner of Progressive Field on Ontario Avenue. Past demonstrations from the group included individuals with signs and loudspeakers.
According to the demonstration guidelines posted by the organization:
The first Indians game at Progressive Field this year is scheduled for April 1.
