Highest ranking US Army official makes recruiting pitch at Cleveland City Hall

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Mark Esper, the Secretary of the United States Army, spoke at Cleveland City Hall on Thursday.

The highest ranking U.S. Army official was in town to speak to recruiting officials and meet Cleveland’s city leaders.

“We have 150 different career fields," said Secretary Esper. “We offer great benefits, fantastic pay comparable to anything in the civilian sector.”

Secretary Esper is the highest ranking official in the Department of the Army. He is responsible for matters relating to Army recruitment, organization, training, equipping, and care of all active duty, National Guard, Reserve soldiers, Army civilians, and their families.

President Trump thanked Secretary Esper during his visit to an Army tank production facility in Lima, Ohio on Wednesday.

“Also thank you to the Secretary of the Army, Mark Esper,” the president said. “He’s been fantastic. Thank you.”
