2 road workers struck in University Heights, hit-and-run driver apprehended

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -Two road workers were struck by a hit-and-run driver in University Heights in the early morning hours of Thursday.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Cedar Road near the intersection of South Green Road.

Police said the victims were working for TraffTech and preparing the construction zone at the time of the accident.

The road workers were identified by police as a 46-year-old Elyria man and a 54-year-old Rocky River man.

Both the road workers are in critical condition, police said,

The driver was ultimately apprehended after crashing near Som Center Road.

University Hospitals identified the driver as a 64-year-old man from Richfield.

Police said he is in critical condition at Hillcrest Hospital.

His car was towed to the University Heights Police Department, according to officials.

The names of the road workers and driver are being withheld at this time as the investigation continues.
