CANTON, OH (WOIO) - Canton students are still trying to absorb the news of a classmate’s gruesome death.

Police say the 14-year-old was shot in the head and left in an alley to die.

Sylvia McGhee’s friends want to know why someone was out to hurt her.

They were back at school together Monday, mourning the loss together.

Taylor Mitchell and Teylar Bradley gave Cleveland 19 videos of Sylvia that they say everyone was passing around in school.

“It hurts to see them really bad, because I loved her a lot,” Bradley said. “She was always a very free spirited person.”

“I just want to know why,” Mitchell said.

“It’s just crazy that one minute you can have her there, you can talk to her, and the next minute, she’s just gone,” Bradley said.

Monday, police say they arrested someone for giving false information in Sylvia’s case.

Detectives interviewed two juveniles regarding the murder of Sylvia McGhee. One of the juveniles was arrested and charged with giving false information, according to Canton police.

Mitchell said, “It’s like a wake up call. I want it to get out there for people to realize how important somebody’s life is.”

If you’d like to help Sylvia’s family, people have set up this GoFundMe page.
