CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - No, it is not an April Fools’ Day joke: Odell Beckham Jr. is actually a Cleveland Brown.
It's hard for him to believe it as well.
"This can't be real," he said repeatedly at the podium, accompanied by Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry and Myles Garrett.
Odell was in awe sitting next to his long-time friend, and now teammate, Jarvis Landry; he said it was something they talked about coming up.
“Everything I am I learned from him,” Odell said pointing to Landry.
The two played against each other in high school, were roommates in college at LSU and are finally teammates six years later.
Head Coach Freddie Kitchens had nothing but good things to say about the Browns' new threat:
“He brings enthusiasm. Passion. The thing that I think gets misconstrued a little bit with Odell is that he loves people and he loves to play the game. I truly feel like he loves being around his teammates. As a coach, sometimes you look at the team as your family, but at the end of the day, we are not family. Family you are related to by blood – you have a daughter, you have everybody at home – but there is a brotherhood, so to speak, in the locker room. I think with a lot of good players, they want to just feel that sense of brotherhood and compassion, and the passion that he brings to the field is kind of contagious.”
There's that word again, but the energy is infectious, Beckham is in the prime of his career.
The receiver brought in 77 catches, 1,052 yard, and six touchdowns last year for the Giants.
Jarvis broke the NFL record for most receptions in his first five seasons with 429.
It wasn't a hard sell for Beckham to join his best friend in the land.
In regard to Landry’s pitch, here’s what he had to say:
“The love, and appreciation, from top to bottom, is something that made me feel so comfortable. The way it feels like family. here, and I told him he would appreciate that.”
The biggest winner of the day was probably Baker Mayfield, who joked he planned on throwing the ball up with his eyes closed and seeing who comes down with it.
It just might be that type of year for the Cleveland Browns.
A team that has been dismal for quite some time have yet another huge piece, for a successful turn-around.
