CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Early Thursday morning a driver crashed into a construction zone on I-90 westbound at Dead Man’s Curve right before the Superior Avenue/St. Clair Avenue exit.
Employees with Burton Scot Contractors said the driver hit a construction truck that was positioned to block a worker operating a micro surface grinding machine.
The man operating that machine was Neil Gilreath, a subcontractor with DOT Diamond Core Drilling for the last eight years.
Gilreath told Cleveland 19 by phone, “I turned and looked to the right, and all I saw was headlights right when I heard the boom and that’s when he slammed right into me. People don’t pay attention. These guys (construction workers) out here just like me-- you wanna go home to your family at the end of the night. You don’t want to end up a news headline.”
Gilreath was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, but he didn’t appear to suffer any serious injuries.
The driver of the car that struck the construction zone was also taken to the hospital.
Cleveland 19 News is still working to get information on that driver.
