Ohio man flees scene after being tasered, killing passenger in high speed crash

RAVENNA TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on State Route 59 in Portage County.

According to OSHP, police pulled over Joshua Christopher Pakela’Ikepihamekealoha Kalili, 27 with Brianna Lewandowski, 22, and an unidentified passenger Friday at 12:07 a.m.

After observing signs of impairment, Kalili was put in the back of a cruiser, but got aggressive quickly.

Police say Kalili was removed from the police cruiser after moving suspiciously, and began resisting and assaulting officers.

Officers used a taser multiple times but Kalili fought them off and was able to get behind the wheel of his 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada and flee the scene.

Lewandowki remained in the vehicle but the third person exited the vehicle before Kalili took off.

According to police, Kalili fled westbound on SR 59 before hitting a concrete barrier, resulting in the death of Lewandowski.

Following the crash Kalili fled on foot, but was found just before 1:30 a.m. in a mobile home park in Ravenna.

The incident is still under investigation but Kalili has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, a first-degree felony.
