Cleveland Police say shooting death of 1-year-old was accidental, but they’re not saying who pulled the trigger

Cleveland neighborhood reeling over shooting death of 1-year-old

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland Police are still looking into the circumstances that left a child dead on Rexwood Avenue.

The child has been identified as Isaiah Martin.

Although police are calling the shooting accidental, they’re still not saying who pulled the trigger.

"That is so sad. When I think about it, it hurts me to my heart that that baby is gone," said neighbor Sheena Martin.

People living in the area are still trying to process what happened.

"They said it was accidental, but still it's a life and he never got a chance to live it," said another neighbor, Alfred Conway.

During the long, drawn-out hours of initial scene investigation Saturday evening, a man was in tears.

Hours later, a boy around 10 years old was escorted out of the building, and went with his family.

But just as the crime scene was wrapping up, another woman was walked out by police. She was placed in the back of a detective’s car, as officers reopened the street.

At this point, it’s still unclear what may have happened. Nevertheless, neighbors believe this all could have been prevented if the adults were more careful.

"If they’re responsible parents, they would have been watching what their kids were doing,” concluded Conway.
