School superintendent placed on leave in Portage County now charged with sexual battery involving student

WINDHAM, OH (WOIO) - The superintendent placed on leave from Windham Exempted Village Schools has been indicted by a grand jury for allegedly having sex with a high school student.

According to Portage County court records, Laura Amero was arraigned Monday morning for two counts of sexual battery, two counts of attempted sexual battery, and one count of intimidation of a crime victim.

Investigators allege that Amero engaged in sexual activity with a 16-year-old male student in 2017. Amero also allegedly attempted to engage in sexual behavior with a second 16-year-old male student in 2015 and 2016, according to the indictment filed with the Portage County Court of Common Pleas.

Windham Exempted Village Schools placed Amero, who was serving as superintendent, on leave on April 1. Gregg Isler was named acting superintendent in her place.

Amero’s next court hearing is scheduled for May 31.
