Barberton boy fighting cancer welcomed back to school by entire community

BARBERTON, OH (WOIO) - The Barberton Police Department and school staff at Barberton Elementary East made one child’s return to school really special.

The boy’s name is Tommy and pulled up to school in a police cruiser with a personal escort from the city’s finest.

Carly Young, the mother of Tommy, posted a video of her son’s welcome on Facebook Tuesday morning.

Tommy was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2018; missing school for treatments.

According to Young, Tommy is now in the final (maintenance) stage of his cancer treatment, he is expected to be finished Sept. 2021.
