The first Arbor Day efforts were held in Nebraska City, Nebraska in 1872.

One million trees were planted in Nebraska that year.

In 1972, one hundred years later the Arbor Day Foundation was formed to continue the mission of planting trees.

According to the National Arbor Day Foundation over 250 million trees have been planted and distributed for posterity.

National Arbor Day is observed on the last Friday in April.
