CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Verizon revealed on Thursday that the next generation of wireless technology will be available in Cleveland by the end of 2019.
Once the 5G Ultra Wideband technology is installed, residents in Cleveland with a 5G-enabled device will experience benefits like faster wireless speeds and high definition video calling.
The newest network technology is expected to be between 10 to 40 times faster than they are currently.
Chief Technology Officer Kyle Malady talked about why the presence of 5G service in Cleveland is significant.
“We’re really looking forward to giving Cleveland this technology, kind of first in the world, and we’re looking forward to it," Malady said. “And Cleveland rocks!”
“5G speeds will unlock a new world of possibilities for consumers and businesses — they’ll be able to stream, download, browse, and share like they never have before,” said YH Eom, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics America.
In addition to Cleveland, 5G Ultra Wideband will also be available this year in:
- Des Moines
- Kansas City
- Little Rock
- San Diego
- Salt Lake City
- Washington, D.C.
The technology was first introduced in Chicago and Minneapolis as part of the program’s pilot testing.
The Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung’s first 5G smartphone in the U.S., is available for preorder beginning Thursday.
