South Euclid Police warning residents after men tail and rob unsuspecting bank customers

SOUTH EUCLID, OH (WOIO) - South Euclid Police are warning you to be very careful on your way home from the bank.

They say two young men have followed unsuspecting victims home from local branches, and as soon as they get inside their homes, the men were right there ready to rob them of their cash.

On April 29, a customer made a quick trip to his neighborhood Fifth Third Bank on Mayfield Road.

When he got home, he parked his car in the garage and left it open. Police say the two men made their way inside the home and threatened him with a kitchen knife and took off with his wallet.

They immediately did some shopping in Cleveland Heights with credit cards from the victim’s wallet.

Surveillance cameras captured clear mages of the men. There’s also a picture of a red or maroon getaway car.

On May 6, a woman made a stop at the PNC Bank just steps away from the Fifth Third.

Police say the two men confronted her after she pulled in her garage. They tried to take her purse, but she pepper sprayed one of them and they ran.

Regular customers at both banks say just when they thought they were careful, now they’re not so sure.

19 News asked one woman, “Anything you would do differently?” She said: “I don’t know what to do different cause at some point, you’ve gotta go to the ATM. I probably would scan the parking lot to see what’s there.”
