Suspect on the loose after killing a man outside a Summit County store, police say

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) - Police are looking for a 24-year-old accused of gunning down a man outside a convenience store.

Akron police said Eugene Calvin Wells Jr. shot and killed a 22-year-old man outside the store at Princeton and West South Streets around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers said the victim, Matthew Walters, of Akron, was found lying in the intersection with multiple gunshot wounds.

Walters was pronounced dead at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

Witnesses told police after the shooting, Wells fled in a black Chevy Impala with tinted windows.

Police signed a warrant for aggravated murder and said Wells should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police said Wells also has an escape warrant that was issued in August 2018.
