19 First Alert Weather Day: Flash flood warning issued for several Northeast Ohio counties

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for many counties in Northeast Ohio until 9:00 PM.

Storms that develop in this environment may produce strong, damaging winds in excess of 58 mph, heavy rain, and large hail.

My main concern with tonight’s storms is heavy rain, which may lead to localized flooding and ponding on the roadways. If you encounter a roadway that is submerged, turn around. Do not drive over that roadway.

At this point in the evening, the greatest risk of strong storms is south of the Cleveland metro area.

Weather Scenario:

Low pressure near Green Bay has shifted east today. This feature will pull a cold front across the area this evening. High pressure will then set up shop to our north for Thursday. The high will move east through the course of the weekend. Another cold front will be approaching from the west between Monday and Tuesday.

Short Term Forecast:

Good evening! It was a very active afternoon weather-wise, wasn’t it? We have had several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in our viewing area, and even a few Tornado Warnings on the outskirts of our viewing area.

While the severe weather threat will continue to diminish as the night goes on, it will not be zero until after 11:00 PM. We are going to keep a chance of a passing storm in the forecast until 11:00 PM. After that, we should dry things out nicely.

Even after the storm threat ends, the clouds will hang around. Areas of fog will also develop overnight. Watch out for that on the morning commute.

Cloudy Thursday:

Thursday will begin on a rather cloudy, dreary note. We don’t expect much, if anything, in the way of sunshine until after 2:00 PM. Some areas may even take a bit longer than that to clear out.

We will also be dealing with the dreaded lake breeze tomorrow. Lakeshore areas will only top out in the mid to upper 60s. Some spots may hit 70°.

Away from Lake Erie, in places like Akron and Canton, we’ll top out in the mid 70s.

For Friday, expect mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures. We’re forecasting widespread mid 70s for the last day of your work week.

Weekend Outlook:

At this time, we are keeping things dry for the upcoming weekend.

Saturday: A mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 80s.

Sunday: A mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the low 80s.
