ERIE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Erie County Sheriff deputies said a 16-year-old boy shot and killed his mother before shooting himself.
Deputies said his 15-year-old brother called 911 after finding them in the basement of their Huron Township home.
The sheriff says the mother in this truly horrific case reported her troubled teen missing from their home on Monday.
Deputies say they’d responded to the residence before when the 16-year-old was being unruly.
He apparently showed up back at the home Tuesday night.
Then his younger brother walked in and found the unthinkable.
He told 911 dispatchers he got a ride home from his driver’s ed class Tuesday night, because his mom wasn’t answering her phone.
When deputies arrived at the home in the 500 block of Snowy Egret Drive, they said the mother was dead from at least one gunshot wound to the head.
The 16-year-old was also shot in the head and deputies said he was taken by Life Flight to MetroHealth Hospital.
Deputies said the teenager is currently in critical condition.
Police believe the gun that was used belongs to the teen’s oldest brother.
He’s in the Navy. He’s headed home from California right now, because of all this.
Deputies say they don’t have any reason to believe the weapon was improperly stored at this point.
19 News is not releasing the name of the juveniles.
Erie County Sheriff deputies said this is an ongoing investigation.
