CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A pregnant woman and an infant were transported to the hospital following a crash on I-77 North near Pershing Avenue Wednesday morning

According to Cleveland Fire, the accident happened around 6 a.m.

Cleveland police said the 31-year-old pregnant woman and one-year-old child were inside a Saturn Relay minivan driven by a 32-year-old man.

Officers said he was travelling northbound on I-77 at a high rate of speed, when he lost control, drove into the shoulder and struck a guardrail.

He then rear ended a disabled Mack truck equipped with a dumpster.

All three in the Saturn were taken to MetroHealth Hospital.

The driver died from his injuries.

The pregnant woman and child remain at MetroHealth Hospital.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

An accident on I-77 NB after Harvard Avenue is blocking the RIGHT LANE. Traffic is pretty much at a standstill, slowing from before Harvard Avenue. Stay LEFT to get by
