Investigators look for more victims of Boy Scout leader facing child porn charges

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Federal investigators are looking for more possible victims of a Boy Scout leader charged with producing child pornography.

Thomas Close, known as "Aqua Joe," is accused of secretly recording boys changing after swimming.

Close was the Boy Scout leader of Troop 406 in Shelby.

Homeland Security Investigations issued a public appeal for anyone who thinks they or their child were recorded by him between 2011 and 2018.

Federal agents arrested Thomas Close of Richland County, now 40 years old, last November.

He was indicted in January on four child pornography-related charges, including two counts of sexual exploitation of children.

Close has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

Investigators found videos of children changing clothes before and after swimming and connected them to Close.

According to the affidavit, Close admitted to creating some of the videos at his house, where he had a pool.

Investigators say he had five terabytes of child porn on his computers.

If you suspect you or your child were recorded by Close, investigators want you to contact them at this email address: HSI-CLOSE-Investigation@ice.dhs.gov.

They ask you attach a photo of you or your child, preferably a photo taken during the time period of contact with Close.

HSI says "the privacy of crime victims and survivors is of the utmost importance."

Thomas Close will be back in federal court on August 21 at 2:00 p.m. for a pre-trial conference and change of plea hearing.
